Selecting a Contractor

When Selecting a Contractor, Focus on Value Instead of Price

Selecting a ContractorWe are often asked by our clients when we begin discussing window films with them something like “How much will this cost per square foot?”. While that is certainly a fair question and one that we are prepared to answer, we always want to preface it by discussing the value of what Midwest Glass Tinters offers rather than the cost. The reason behind this is rather simple; whether you are talking about window tint or many other product offerings, you must ask yourself what am I getting for the “cost” quoted. To quote Warren Buffett, “Price is what you pay. Value is what you get.”

That being said, here are four reasons you should consider more than just cost when selecting a contractor to install window film.

Is the quality of the film being installed equivalent? – The window film industry is much the same as many manufacturing industries. The quality of the products made vary widely from product line to product line and manufacturer to manufacturer. Two films can differ in the performance they provide, their appearance and the length of the warranty. Always ensure that you are taking all variables into account when comparing two window films.

Is the quality of the installer equivalent? – The quality of the film chosen is only half of the story. Professionally installing window film takes experience and skill. Like any trade, the level of experience and skill ranges from a novice that is just getting started to a seasoned veteran that has many years under their belt. The overall appearance of the finished job has as much to do with the skill of the installer as it does with the film selected.

Is the quality of the installation company equivalent? – Proper installation of window film often involves things such as moving furniture, removing blinds or drapery, scraping your windows clean, etc. Your home is your single largest investment and you want a company that will care for your home and furnishings the way that you would. If a company uses a top quality product that is installed properly, but leaves you with a damaged piece of furniture or a dirty carpet, the cost of that job just became much more expensive.

Is the quality of the manufacturer equivalent? – Like most industries, window film manufacturers come in several types and sizes. It is important to understand who is making the film you are having installed and who is standing behind the warranty of that product. It does you no good to have a lifetime warranty if the company standing behind it goes out of business in 5 years.

We hope these tips help you in evaluating the value of what you are getting instead of just the cost. At Midwest Glass Tinters, we use only top quality products from reputable manufacturers and the installations are done by a conscientious and skilled team that is second to none.
